6 Must-Follow Social Media Thought Leaders
Working in social isn’t just about developing strategies and content; it’s also about consuming content. A lot of content. So, it’s understandable to feel overwhelmed when considering where to get your updates and whom to approach for in-depth industry insights. Moreover, the industry is constantly changing, so staying updated is imperative.
One way I ease the stress is by following accounts that share industry insights as their main content. This way, while I scroll daily, I also consume diverse industry perspectives!
Here are the top 6 accounts (in no particular order) I follow to keep my brain fresh:
Rachel Karten - As a former Bon Appétit Social Media Lead, Rachel is now a social media consultant running a Substack called Link in Bio that highlights some of the most interesting topics in social media today. She’s incredibly knowledgeable and has a great pulse on the industry.
Lia Haberman - Lia keeps track of platform updates, audience insights, and marketing trends in a short and sweet newsletter, ICYMI. Love seeing this one in my inbox!
Latasha James - Latasha is an entrepreneur and social media marketer who has a YouTube channel and a podcast discussing everything related to running your own business and the social media industry. I love listening to her podcast during my walks and scrolling her page for all things freelancing!
Social Media Examiner - This is also a YouTube channel and podcast providing everything you need to know about social media. They organize the Social Media Marketing World conference every year, which I hope to attend one day!
Silence, Brand! - A Substack that focuses more on internet culture, memes, and viral moments. I love the chaotic vibe it has, which I believe perfectly mimics today’s internet culture.
Jaskaran Singh - Jaskaran runs a Substack that offers all the essential weekly marketing updates you need.
Although most of these thought leaders are on Substack and YouTube, I also follow them on Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn! On LinkedIn, it's great to see who else in the industry they interact with, and you can follow more in-depth conversations about these topics. Who else should I add to this list? 💡
